The TGHA is organized and run by volunteers. Playing members and non-playing members are encouraged to get involved by helping at our events and tournaments. If you wish to nominate a TGHA member for an Executive position please submit a completed form to the Elections Officer, (Woody's). Benefits of Being an Executive MemberTGHA members in good standing are encouraged to offer their time and commitment to the Executive. Meetings of the Executive are generally held once per month. Members of the Executive who perform their duties in a reliable manner are entitled to a $100 discount on their regular season registration fees. As an Executive member you help run the largest gay hockey league in the world! WorkloadThe peak times for work by Executive members are mid August to early October. This period involves preparations for the season registration, player draft, start of season play, and Friendship Tournament. Another peak period is March and April, involving, end of season, the playoffs, the year end Awards Banquet and A.G.M./elections. Executive members are expected to assist with league events where possible. Responsibility of Executive MembersThe Commissioner oversees the best interests of the TGHA; ensures continuity and growth of the league; chairs meetings; and oversees all league tournaments. The Events Coordinator is responsible for fund raising; social events; and liaison with TGHA sponsors. The Membership/Registration Coordinator plans registration events and membership drives; looks after player registration; ensures payment of fees; assists with the grading of players for the draft; maintains the mailing list; and coordinates the placement of new players. The Play Coordinator is responsible for the player draft; the enforcement of league rules; the booking of ice time, referees and timekeeper; scheduling of games and practices; player evaluations; and league statistics. The Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for media relations; the Stickhandler; the TGHA website; league publications; and the promotion of league events. The Secretary maintains the league's records and archives; takes minutes at meetings; plans meetings and elections; and keeps a record of TGHA assets. The Tournaments Coordinator is responsible for the organization of league tournaments (e.g. Friendship Tournament); and the coordination of TGHA involvement in out of town tournaments. For league tournaments, the Tournament Coordinator coordinates planning of the tournament banquet, awards, entertainment, and the recruitment of additional volunteers. The Treasurer maintains league finances; prepares budgets; looks after banking; provides budget updates and financial summaries. Members who have incurred expenses when working on league events should use the deposit and expense claim forms to submit a reimbursement request to the treasurer. |
